How To Build A Minecraft Campsite
We take a look at how to build your very own campsite in Minecraft, and everything you will need to complete it.
Build Specifications
You spend a lot of time in Minecraft getting back to nature, but when you sleep it is usually in houses, caves and bunkers. Why not build a campsite for yourself instead? Live off the land, enjoy a roaring fire and cower virtually unprotected from the hostile animals around you.
Here are the things your build needs to have to qualify:
- At least one tent that can fit a couple of players
- A campfire
- A log to sit on
- Some outdoor lighting
Other than that, you are free to try whatever you want.
Hints & Tips
Try to find a natural clearing so you don’t have to spend ages removing trees and leaves. You should also look for flat ground and avoid forests that are going to be too dense, such as dark forests, unless you are aiming for a spooky setting.
You don’t have to make your tent out of wool, but since there aren’t many other cloth-like items in the game you may not have a choice. Put the campfire in the middle with the tents opening towards it, and lighting around the edges. You don’t have to fully light the area, but it is worth doing a little to stop mobs from spawning next to you.
Finishing Touches
Remember to include the sleeping bags and you can make them look like beds by using coloured carpet tiles with a white tile at the top. Vary the ground around your campfire and in between the tents to make it look like the campsite is well used.
Try putting podzol around the fire and flatten the grass into paths. A bale of hay placed under a campfire turns it into a signal fire and the smoke will rise higher so that it can be seen from miles away, making it easier to find your way back to the campsite.
Additions
There are plenty of ways you can expand a campsite, add some storage, craft a barbecue so you can appear to cook while outdoors, set up a wash station at a nearby river or pond and so on. If you started with one tent, add a couple more until your campsite can sleep multiple people at once.
Lay traps around the perimeter to stop mobs getting in and causing trouble and if you’re playing in Peaceful, see if you can set up traps to catch yourself dinner. For the ultimate in campsite protection, tame a pack of wolves so they can warn you of danger and fight off any enemies.
